Sunday Snippet: Why Would I Send My Child Away For So Long?

WeHaKee Camp for Girls | Flower in the rainThere are people who have gone to camp or have sent their kids to camp - they get it!   And there are those who who haven't been to camp and don't understand the lure and power of the camp experience.   We in the camp business often respond to this scenario "It's a camp thing", which unfortunately comes off as being inclusive, patronizing or worse, implying 'we're better than you'.   That is so sad, because the camp experience is so much more and those of us who 'get it', need to do whatever we can to help others get it, too.   The growth and development of our children is way too important for us to keep this 'an inside job'!   So let's talk about that this week, shall we?!!

FRIDAYS WITH FRANKY! Thanks For A Great Summer!

Friday with Franky!Hi Everyone ~ It's me Franky back with another of my weekly posts!   You know, with the rush of wrapping up camp and moving back to La Crosse, I didn't have much time to say thank you to all who made my first summer at WeHaKee fantastic.   I had a wonderful time and appreciate how everyone welcomed me (a boy!) into the WeHaKee community.

As some of you know, Maggie and Bob (with some persisitent encouragement from Hannah & Carina!) adopted me and brought me into their home just a few weeks before moving up to WeHaKee.   As much as I was thrilled getting away from the 16 other dogs I was living with at the time, I was pretty nervous about my new home.   And just as I started getting used to the Braun family home, they up and moved me to Camp WeHaKee.   I just didn't know what I was getting in to!

Sunday Snippet: Mary WeHaKee Revisited

in

Tomorrow - Monday, January 9th - is the first WeHaKee Moon fo 2012!   As is tradition, we encourage members of the WeHaKee community to don their WeHaKee wear to proudly let the world know about your connection to this wonderful place!

With the WeHaKee Moon in mind, we wanted to share some recent information that came our way.   Mary Paynter, OP, has spent several years seeking the meaning of the name Wehake Labatte.   She recently experienced success while working with researchers in the Souix language from Minnesota.   The information she has brought to us is quite interesting and changes some of our assumed knowledge regarding this young girl for who the camp is named.   We hope you will take a moment to see what Sr. Mary has has graciously shared with us:

Sunday Snippet: Diversity Is Healthier!

Diversity can come in a multitude of forms.   Of course we can think of diversity in terms of culture, race, ethnicity, socio-economic, geographic and so much more.   Today we are visiting diversity in a more micro sense or from the internal perspective ~ diversity from within!

Sunday Snippets: Good Luck!

To maintain a broad outlook, we follow a number of writers who post online and elsewhere.   One particular set of writers, Marc and Angel Hack, provide a unique and refreshingly positive view on how one can personally lead a more positive and productive life.   They recently wrote a piece on creating your own good luck which seemed in line with much of what we try to instill at WeHaKee (click HERE to read their article). We thought we would reflect on their thoughts.   Enjoy!
