A Camper’s Words – Session 1, Part 2
“When I came to Camp WeHaKee my first year, I was shy and timid. I cried during my first nights because I was scared and I missed home, but my cabin mates hugged me and made me feel safe. Even on the night Mary WeHaKee came and I was scared, they made me feel better by pulling their mattresses on the floor so we could all sleep together. Also, seeing my sister in the morning every day made me feel a little closer to home.
Eventually, I made more friends over the course of my past three years and I continue to make more now that I’m in my fourth year. All of these girls make me feel like I can be myself here and at home. I’ve opened myself up and was accepted by girls here and people at home. A lot of who I am exists thanks to Camp WeHaKee!”
