Celebration is in the Air
The celebration was in full swing at WeHaKee this weekend as we gathered for the Showcase on Sunday to see all the great things the campers have done over Session 1.
We met at the arena to watch the horse classes show off their stuff. Then we sat back and enjoyed shows from the gymnastics, drama, musicals, singers, and instrumental music classes.
The Closing Fire at the beach was bittersweet as we remembered the fun we had during Session 1. On Monday morning, our first group of girls were reunited with their families and left us for the summer. The four week campers celebrated Independence Day with a parade that included decorated counselors and lots and lots of red, white and blue!
The girls hopped on the bus and visited Copper Falls on Tuesday afternoon. There they walked the trails learning about different rock formations and checking out the various waterfalls. After, they trekked over to the other side of the park for a refreshing swim. The next stop was Hayward for some shopping and dinner. When the bus pulled back into camp, everyone was exhausted and it was a quiet night.
This morning, everyone excitedly anticipated the arrival of the Session 2 campers. The girls began arriving around 3:00 p.m. After unpacking, they spent the afternoon playing games in the Valley before our delicious spaghetti supper.
The evening concluded with health screenings, waterfront orientation, swim checks and evening prayer. It has been a long day of travel for many girls, and a few are still en route! We can’t wait to give them a big WeHaKee welcome when they arrive.
