Lauren is one of two Laurens on our WeHaKee staff team, so henceforth, we proclaim her to be Lauren B! Welcome aboard!
Majoring in Animal Studies, Samantha is currently attending Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. A native of Wheaton, Illinois, she is crazy passionate about animals and can’t wait to work with the horses and campers this summer.
“I recently purchased a horse named Q. She is so sweet and is the horse version of my Beagle, Sophie. My dog, my horse, and I love to eat. Seriously, anything- sometimes at the expense of my stomach. I love food., from sushi to steak and potatoes to pie.
I recently travelled to Belize to do Service Learning through my university. The group I was with went down and built a solar latrine, set the foundation work for a radio station, and helped repair classrooms in a Mayan village. This was one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had. Not only did we get to help a community but we were able to learn about a culture that most of us knew nothing about.
I’ve also travelled to Ireland, France, Germany, Mexico and flew over Canada (that count’s right?). I’m always eager to try new things and I can’t wait to meet everyone this summer!
This will be Samantha’s first year at WeHaKee Camp for Girls and we can’t wait to meet her in a few short days!
Returning to Camp WeHaKee for her 6th summer, this will be Ana’s first as a member of our Staff Team. She lives in Mexico City, where she is majoring in marketing and communications and just finished her freshman year of college.
“I have a dog named Mia. She is the one I’m going to miss the most this summer, she is always with me and she is a great companion. I’m a huge Taylor Swift fan, I admire her work and I think shes a great person. I daydream too much, I’m easily exited, I laugh a lot, I knock on wood constantly, I love singing at the top of my lungs when I’m driving in my car, even though the people in the cars next to me look at me like I’m crazy, but I don’t care! I like superheroes movies and i love to travel. I can be very creative when decorating cookies and cakes and i can’t wait to teach the girls this summer!”
We look forward the return of Ana’s energy and fun-loving spirit to the shores of Hunter Lake this summer!
A Wisconsin native from Green Bay, Liz is currently pursuing a Masters of Theological Studies at Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts. This will be her first summer as a counselor at WeHaKee Camp for Girls which she hopes will compliment her desire to be a secondary education teacher.
“I am thrilled with the opportunity to be a part of the WeHaKee Leadership Academy program and work with a variety of people. Some of my hobbies include running, singing, dancing, and anything outdoors. I love music and the arts! I have taken part in a number of plays, orchestras, and ensembles. My two main instruments are piano and French horn. I am an avid runner with two marathons, one full marathon, and numerous road races under my belt. This October I will be running the Bank of America Chicago Marathon.”
We welcome you to WeHaKee Liz and look forward to all you have to share with our campers!
Originally from Chicago, IL suburb of Naperville, Kyla will be coming all the way from Geneva, IL to join the WeHaKee girls for this summer! She is currently an undergrad student at the University of Missouri (GO TIGERS!) studying Animal Science/Pre-veterinary medicine with a minor in Equine Studies.
“I have always loved horses from a young age and they have done so much for me that I figured it is time for me to help them. My favorite memories are going to my 4-H club’s horseback county fair shows and just having fun being with my horse. I also liked educating the younger members of my club on what they can do to make their horses healthier and happier. I love jumping because I get that moment of hang time where it fells like I am flying. Plus, horses give the best kisses and hugs, especially my horse D’echo!! Hunt seat is my main riding discipline as I have done this seat for 11 years but recently picked up Western riding at Stephens College where I take my equine classes and am now hooked on Western! An interesting/fun/goofy facts about me is that I have never been on a plane before and I once fell off my horse but did a somersault in mid-air and landed on my feet unharmed”
Welcome to the WeHaKee Staff Team Kyla. We can’t wait to see you in just a few days!
Kate resides in the city of Hassocks in the United Kingdom. She is currently studying at the University of Edinbburgh. This summer will be Kate’s first summer as on our Summer Staff Team at WeHaKee Camp for Girls.
“The picture attached is in the middle of one of my favourite Scottish dances called Strip the Willow. This was taken at a Charity Ball in Scotland, where I attend The University of Edinburgh. It is one of many dances in a Ceilidh, and usually plays just before Old lang syne. The Scots say that you haven’t been to a good Ceilidh unless you have bruises all up your arms as your partner tries to keep your feet off the ground! Sounds brutal, but is so much fun- as you can hopefully see! Despite not being Scottish, I might be able to remember a few of the dances to teach you! Hopefully without the bruises!
Looking forward to all you have to share with us and our campers this summer at WeHaKee!
A resident of North Dakota, Laura S. lists her hometown as Edgely and she is currently studying at the North Dakota State University in Fargo.
“I’m currently a super senior at NDSU majoring in Animal Science with only a semester to go. I grew up on a farm/ranch outside of Edgeley, ND with my parents and two sisters and graduated from Edgeley High School in 2009 with a class of 21. I got engaged at the beginning of March to a man named John and we’re planning on getting married at the end of December, I’m super excited about it!! I ride on the western horse team at NDSU and have been a captain there the past two years. I love riding horse, my motorcycle, and flying. I’m really happy about camp this summer and can’t wait to get started!!”
Laura will be our Horseback Riding Director this summer and we look forward to all that she has to share with our campers!
Travelling nearly halfway around the earth, Jemma joins us at Camp WeHaKee from Urenui, New Zealand.
“I’m from a small country rural area called Urenui (born and breed!!) which is 30 minutes north of New Plymouth. I am a Maori New Zealander and proud. I’m SUPER excited about coming to WeHaKee, meet heaps of people of different ethnicities, making life long friends and also being an influence/role model to the girls. This will be my first trip to the USA and also out of the country. I love to take on new challenges that will take me out of my comfort zone. I enjoy both outdoor and indoor activities (especially anything to do with the water and baking).”
She will be a first time member of our 2013 WeHaKee Staff Team and we are looking forward to her arrival in a few short days!
A resident from Wisconsin’s largest city, Milwaukee, Monika is a student at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
“I’m a native Wisconsinite, born and raised in Milwaukee but attending school in La Crosse. I have many hobbies and interests, but art and the outdoors truly fascinate me. I really love the earthy smell after it just rained and being barefoot in the summer. When I was in elementary school, I spent many of my summers at different summer camps and made many lasting memories. I’m super excited to see what kind of memories WeHaKee leaves with me this summer.”
We welcome Monika W (along with Monika S!) for her first ever experience as a counselor at WeHaKee Camp for Girls!
A student at Winona State University in Winona, Minnesota, Clare is a resident of West St. Paul, Minnesota. She attended Creighton-Durham Hall High School in St. Paul.
“I love meeting new people and I can’t wait to meet everyone at camp! I’m unusually peppy and it’s my favorite thing to do is making people laugh:) I’m a really awkward dancer but I do it all the time for kicks and giggles!”
Clare joins us at WeHaKee Camp for Girls for her first summer. Looking forward to a summer full of laughter!

Though I’m a good ‘ole, small town, Midwestern girl, I LOVE to travel and have new experiences. I have had the luck to travel to London, Chicago, the Caribbean and my favorite, exploring the east coast in Boston and Maine. I love meeting new people and finding out what makes them tick.”
Although she was a counselor at the Lawrence University Academy of Music in 2012, this will be her first year on our WeHaKee Staff Team.
Julia joins us for her first summer at WeHaKee Camp for Girls. She is currently living in the Windy City of Chicago, Illinois.
“You will likely find from perusing my facebook that I have a lot of art projects posted on there. Something interesting and unique is that I am half Turkish and my sister also goes to camp as a camper. I have attached a picture of my cousin and me on a ferry crossing the Bosphorus Strait in Turkey.”
look forward to welcoming Julia and all of her creative skills to the shores of Hunter Lake this summer!
