Girls Summer Program of 2020 Cancellation
Dear Parents and Campers
We, as the directors of WeHaKee Camp for Girls, and the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa are heartbroken to announce the decision to cancel our girls camp program for Summer, 2020. All of us are deeply saddened and disappointed as this was to be our 98th consecutive summer at WeHaKee.
As you know, at the heart of WeHaKee is relationship. The WeHaKee relationships are extremely important to us and that is what has driven this decision. The health, well-being and safety of everyone in the WeHaKee community is of the utmost importance. It has become clear that closing camp for this summer is the best way for us to maintain that priority.
We felt that there would be so many things that we would not be able to do this summer – things that are at the center of the WeHaKee experience: sharing hugs among friends, giving a high five after an exciting accomplishment, gathering together as a full camp community at evening prayer or at the fire ring. It just wouldn’t be camp without these things we have come to expect at WeHaKee.
If ever there was a summer where we needed camp, it would be this summer—a summer to build a new community, a summer to try new things with the support of a trusted counselor, a summer to make new friends from around the world. Worlds Apart, Coming Together – it is the message at the center of WeHaKee.
For our new campers who signed up for WeHaKee for the very first time, that’s a very brave thing to do. We are so very sorry that you can’t join us at camp this summer, but we look forward to welcoming you into the WeHaKee family next year!
This decision at this time is the right decision. It is important to be a good community member, of the greater community. By making the sacrifice to keep WeHaKee closed this summer, we all are doing what is necessary to help the world effectively overcome the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Details regarding the impact of this decision can be found in the FAQ section below. If after viewing our FAQ’s you have any questions or concerns, we encourage you to contact Bob or Maggie at Info@WeHaKeeCampforGirls.com or 715-266-3263.
We will miss each and every one of you this summer. We do hope you will stay in touch with us and know that we have a plan to stay in contact with you all year long. We can’t wait to welcome you back to your second home at WeHaKee Camp for Girls. Be well, stay safe, and God Bless.

The decision to cancel programming was incredibly difficult on both a historical and emotional level. We remained hopeful for as long as we could as our staff exhausted all alternative programming options with the goal of saving our 98th season at Camp. We follow guidance from the American Camp Association, the CDC, the Dominican Sisters, state and local health departments along with medical experts to support our programming decisions and have always been committed to providing a safe environment for campers and families. Ultimately, there are just too many unknowns about COVID-19 and how to maintain a safe environment at Camp to continue with summer programming this year.
