Well, tonight we all gathered in the chapel for evening prayer, but as we waited for the cabin assigned to lead us this evening, no one came forward. We waited a bit longer and then asked to see if perhaps the cabin had forgotten. As it turned out, there was a schedule glitch and no one was assigned tonight! Oops!!
Kathy jumped in and lead a song and Bob shared an opening prayer, intentionally lengthening it a bit to give Kathy, Allison and Paulina time to be creative for the next portion. After the prayer, the three came forward and asked Bob to join them, saying “you’ll catch on”. The four stood in front and each shared some things for which they were thankful. After a few rounds, they then invited the campers and staff to consider standing up and sharing something they were thankful for. That’s when the spirit really emerged and some amazing, wonderful things were shared by many campers and counselors. They were thankful for the love of their parents, for the support of their family, for the friends they have made at camp, for grandparents, sisters, brothers, pets, friends and for the opportunities they have been blessed with in their lives. One girl shared that she was thankful that she could be herself at WeHaKee and not have to act like someone else. Although not everyone stood up to share, the feeling… the spirit in the chapel tonight was amazing! We were blessed with a sense of gratitude… and it felt good!
One last thing we’re thankful for – thank you to all the WeHaKee parents for sharing their amazing daughters with us at camp. Each and every one of them is a joy and we love them all!
