A Time to Relax and to Move On
With the departure of our Auntie/Mother/Daughter Camp groups yesterday along with our last group of WeHaKee staff heading out the gate, the camp season at WeHaKee has come to an end for this summer. As with most transitions, it is a bittersweet time. Our hearts ache for the fun and enthusiasm of a camp full of girls and staff, yet the memories of the summer, still fresh and vibrant, bring smiles to our faces.
All year long, WeHaKee is an amazingly peaceful and beautiful place in the woods of northern Wisconsin, but when it is full of girls dashing off to their activities, letting the screen doors slam behind them it is a camp… a community of caring, compassionate and excited girls and young women exploring their world in ways not possible any where else. There is so much joy, hope and fun that occurs for what seems to be just a few short weeks ~ but through the friendships and memories that are created, it is an experience that lasts a lifetime for everyone who was here this summer.
It is always hard to say goodbye to so many wonderful campers and counselors. It is hard because some of the goodbyes are really ‘see you laters’ as we will see each other again next summer, but some are goodbyes that say thank you for being a part of our lives and we wish you well as you head elsewhere! But in that bittersweetness is a warmth of knowing we had this time together and it has made a wonderful difference in our lives.
So as WeHaKee settles back into this beautiful place in the woods waiting for the fall colors to emerge and the first snows of winter, we hope you will feel the tug of the bungee cord on your heart bringing you back to the shores of Hunter Lake as you reflect on your memories and how your life has changed because you were here. You are a part of the WeHaKee community for life. Thanks for being here!
